Post-COVID, Kerala’s volleyball scene faced a steep decline as children lost interest, and the derecognition of the Volleyball Federation of India disrupted opportunities for young players. With sports grace marks and job prospects affected, many abandoned the game.
In response, the Ernakulam District Volleyball Association, in collaboration with Thomas Muthoot of Kochi Blue Spikers and with support from the Muthoot Pappachan Group, launched the Muthoot Volleyball Academy in November 2021. Starting with four centers in volleyball-strong schools, the initiative aimed to revive the sport at the grassroots. Operating across four key centers — SNV SKT Nanthiattukunnam, HMYS HSS Kottuvallikkad, St. Joseph HSS Kidangoor, and DDSHS Karimbadam — the academy offers structured, year-round training for Mini, Sub-Junior, and Junior categories. From its inception, Muthoot Volleyball Academy has prioritized accessibility, discipline, and technical excellence, led by nationally certified coaches. Each center functions as a hub for holistic player development, integrating modern training methods, academic support, nutrition, and life skills. With initiatives such as summer camps, inter-school championships, drug awareness programs, swimming recovery sessions, and advanced sports science workshops, the academy maintains a 360-degree approach to youth development.
Notably, the academy has successfully created a pipeline for talent progression — producing players who now represent Kerala and India on larger platforms. Through a blend of professional training, values-based mentoring, and institutional support,
