Our Journey So Far

In 2018, a new era in Indian volleyball began with the launch of a city-based indoor league. Seizing the moment, the Muthoot Pappachan Group, led by Mr. Thomas Muthoot, won the Kochi franchise.
Kochi Blue Spikers was born — a team driven by passion and launched under M Liga Sports, ready to ignite the volleyball scene from 2019 onwards.

Kochi Blue Spikers made a powerful debut in the Pro Volleyball League, introducing Indian star Prabagaran as their icon player and national team captain Mohan Ukkarapandian. The team also signed foreign players David Lee, an Olympic gold medalist and World Cup winner for the USA, and Andrej Patuc. Kochi launched their fan-favorite theme song “KochiKaraney,” which still resonates as their identity. The league kicked off with a thrilling opener where Kochi defeated U Mumba Volley 4-1. Their impressive journey ended in the semi-final, narrowly losing to Chennai Spartans in a close 3-2 battle.

Launched in 2021, the Muthoot Volleyball Academy (MVA) was established by the Ernakulam District Volleyball Association in partnership with Thomas Muthoot of Kochi Blue Spikers and the Muthoot Pappachan Group to revive grassroots volleyball in Kerala. Operating across SNV SKT Nanthiattukunnam, HMYS HSS Kottuvallikkad, St. Joseph HSS Kidangoor, and DDSHS Karimbadam, the academy offers year-round training for Mini, Sub-Junior, and Junior players. MVA has produced 1 international player, 12 national athletes, 60 district players, and 3 Kerala state team captains, along with coaches for medal-winning teams.

In 2021, Baseline Ventures had a dispute with the Volleyball Federation of India, and the Pro Volleyball League was stopped forever after its first and only season. Baseline Ventures then joined hands with the original franchises in the Pro Volleyball League and started a rechristened version of the same in the name of the Prime Volleyball League.

The inaugural season of the Prime Volleyball League with 7 teams and the only venue, which was in Hyderabad. Dr Kumara MH was the head coach of Kochi Blue Spikers, and S T Harilal was the assistant coach. The tallest volleyball player in the league, Dushyanth was seen in the jersey of Kochi Blue Spikers for season 1 of the Prime Volleyball League. Still, the inaugural season was a journey of lessons to Koch Blue Spikers.

Kochi Blue Spikers entered Season 2 of the Prime Volleyball League with high expectations, featuring the tallest player, Dushyanth, and the most valuable auction pick, Aman Kumar (₹18 lakhs), under the leadership of Vipul Kumar and head coach S T Harilal. For the first time, league matches were held in Kochi, with the entire second half of the tournament played at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium, where the home crowd roared in support of Kochi Blue Spikers, and unfortunately we didn't create much impact in the second season of Prime Volleyball League.

Kochi Blue Spikers bagged Vulicevic Dejan from Serbia as the head coach for season 3 of the Prime Volleyball League, with Bobby Xavier as the assistant coach. This time Kochi brought a new squad with only a few players retained from the previous season.

The journey of Kochi Blue Spikers took a bold step forward with the launch of Muthoot Blue Spikers — a semi-professional team and official feeder unit, created to compete across Kerala’s top tournaments and develop the next generation of volleyball talent.

Muthoot Blue Spikers secured their first tournament win at the YMA Thanneermukkom Tournament — an early milestone that highlights their commitment to developing volleyball in Kerala, from grassroots to competitive success.
